Low cost, fully responsive websites, Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire

October 2016 was highly significant in technology terms as it was the first month ever that more web pages were viewed on mobile and tablet devices than on desktop and laptop computers.

In short, this means that unless your website is fully responsive, you risk alienating customers who find your company via smartphones or tablets. You are also ignoring Google's latest algorithms that rank responsive sites higher than traditional ones.

Cream Ink offers responsive websites at much lower cost than traditional 'bespoke" sites thanks to a model that starts with an existing template. This means that all of the coding is already done resulting in a huge cost saving, yet that same code can be modified to create a unique website that perfectly suits your company's requirements.

Hopefully, our Q and A below will address any queries, but if there's anything missing, please send us an e-mail and we'll get straight back to you. And don't worry, we won't then continue to pester you - it's not our style!

What is a responsive website?
The goal of responsive design is to build web pages that detect the visitor's screen size and orientation and automatically change the layout accordingly. Given Google's stat that 61% of users are unlikely to return to a mobile site they had trouble accessing and 40% visit a competitor's site instead, this aspect of web design is now incredibly important.

What is Cream Ink's approach to web design?
We start with a basic template (from a choice of thousands) and then make any code changes required to leave you with a unique website that fully reflects your company's personality. You avoid the cost of building a bespoke site from scratch and end up with a fully responsive website using the latest technology (HTML5, CSS3) that will look great on all devices (smartphone, tablet and desktop).

Is a CMS included?
Yes. All sites come with a CMS (Content Management System) meaning you will have back office access to the site to make changes to text and images yourself.

Can I use our existing domain name?
Of course. And the domain can continue to be held by your provider. Simple changes would need to be made to the domain's DNS settings, but we would help you with this.

What about our e-mail?
The new website includes unlimited e-mail addresses, but many clients opt to keep their e-mail where it is. This is no problem at all and the same domain can still point to the new website.

What else could the new website include?
Your new site can include things like a photo gallery or portfolio, blog, lead capture form, links to all social media accounts and full website statistics. We just need to know from the outset which features you require. There are no additional costs for these items.

What about hosting?
Because of the complexities of the template system and its many add-ons, the site has to be hosted on one of our servers. Your website would be hosted on a dedicated server, meaning highly reliable 'up-time" and fast-loading pages. The site is backed-up daily to a separate server. Once the initial site has gone live, there is an annual cost for hosting from the second year onwards, but this is very competitive.

What would I need to provide?
We'll need an idea of what you want to say (and what you don't want to say!) about your business. This doesn't have to be finished copy. We have copywriting capabilities in-house and can work from outline text or bullet points.

Any website requires images. If you already have photography, then great, but if not, we can help you with any photographic requirements and also have access to low cost stock library images if this is a better route for you. Showing us any photography you may have is always a worthwhile exercise. We have huge experience in retouching and manipulating digital images and can often 'recover" photographs you may have filed under 'unusable'.

What about ongoing support?
We're always here to help. To get you started, we'll send you a back office help sheet that will explain how to use the CMS. You can't do any real damage, but if you do get into a tangle, we'll always assist. Cream Ink has been in business for over 20 years, and being helpful, reasonable and professional has played a huge part in that.

How do I find out more?
Please e-mail us with a brief description of your requirements (approximate number of pages, any special requirements etc.) and we'll get back to you with a written quotation. If you decide not to proceed, then no problem, you won't hear from us again, but we think you'll be very pleasantly surprised at the cost. You have nothing to lose and a brand new responsive website to gain that will bring your company's web presence bang up to date!
